On Thursday, the Cincinnati Reds became the first team in Major League Baseball to clinch a playoff spot.

With a 5-3 win against the Chicago Cubs, the Reds guaranteed a playoff berth and improved their record to 91-59 with a .607 overall winning percentage. They have won their past four games, and seven of their last 10.

Brandon Phillips was quick to congratulate his teammates via Twitter:

It is not time for a complete sigh of relief as the Reds still have work to do. Their ultimate goal is to clinch the NL Central. They currently have a 11.0 game lead on the St. Louis Cardinals with 12 games to play.

Up next for Phillips and the Reds is a three-game series against the Dodgers, which kicks off tonight in Cincinnati.
