I knew Teddy Kremer was special the minute I saw the photo I had just shot.

Sitting in the photo room at Great American Ball Park, I was editing my pictures on deadline from a 2012 Cincinnati Reds game against the Chicago Cubs.

I saw the picture I had of guest batboy Kremer after he high-fived Brandon Phillips as Phillips was on his way up to bat. Phillips’ reaction to Teddy’s gesture was priceless.

I rushed back onto the field to find out who this guy was.

I’d covered a lot of Reds games, and I had never seen Teddy before. I knew this was a special night, though. The mood in the dugout was different.
